1. Alcantara S.p.A.
Alcantara S.p.A. is an Italian company founded in 1972 and based in Milan. It started production in 1974
and is the only company producing and distributing the unique material that bears the company’s name.
Alcantara® came into being at the company’s plant at Nera Montoro, in Umbria (Italy) thanks to a true
technological breakthrough. Alcantara® is an innovative material, created through a unique and unrivalled
proprietary technology and used by major international companies in various fields: automotive (car
interior covering), interiors and yachting (high-quality armchairs, sofas and seats, soft furnishings for
boat interiors), fashion (clothes and accessories) and hi-tech applications (mobile and lap-top covers,
lining for helmets).
Besides being a registered trademark, Alcantara®’s unique character is expressed through the advantages
associated with its use: an extraordinary mix of sensoriality, elegance and functionality.

2. Alcantara® LAB
Alcantara® LAB was created by Alcantara S.p.A. as a centre for research into the material and its communication,
with a view to re-inventing it, exploring its potential and discovering new features.
Alcantara® LAB operates as a virtual laboratory for new modes of expression based on innovation and
research. Its aim is to maintain an ongoing and inclusive dialogue with the creative world, listening to the
requirements of designers of all kinds and looking for responses based on Alcantara® LAB’s established
values. Alcantara® LAB is promoting the EXTRAORDINARY, EVERY DAY – ALCANTARA®
MOVIE CONTEST, aimed at all those who work in communication, graphic design, web design,
animation, photography, cinematography, visual arts and fashion.
3. Extraordinary, every day - Alcantara® movie contest
The aim of the contest is to design and produce a video with a running time of no more than 3 minutes.
Its theme is the concept: EXTRAORDINARY, EVERY DAY, which perfectly expresses Alcantara
S.p.A.’s design and communication philosophy. It is all about the extraordinary becoming part of
everyday life, through the four core values that give Alcantara® its unique character:
1. Sensoriality: demonstrated by softness, comfort and warmth - becoming physical wellbeing.
2. Elegance: demonstrated by beauty and elegance - becoming style.
3. Functionality: represented by durability, breathability and ease of maintenance - becoming freedom of
use.
4. Exclusivity: referring to the lifestyle of those who are looking for a sense of satisfaction in using the
everyday objects they possess.
The criteria to follow to produce the video are as follows:
1.conceive and plan a video based on the concept of the extraordinary in everyday life, with no prerequisites
in terms of form and style: use any video language (graphics, animation, film, etc);
2.conceive and plan a video that can make something extraordinary out of our everyday lives at home, at
work, at school or in our spare time;
3.conceive and plan a video reflecting the core values that give Alcantara® its unique character: sensoriality,
elegance, functionality and exclusivity.
4.conceive and plan a video that does not necessarily feature Alcantara® materials or products using
Alcantara®.
Through the EXTRAORDINARY, EVERY DAY – ALCANTARA® MOVIE CONTEST, Alcantara®
LAB hopes to stimulate unique design projects that combine personal and collective perceptions and
experiences. Imagining, introducing, enhancing and amplifying the extraordinary in everyday life means
demonstrating a distinctive, original, unexpected and surprising personality. The claim EXTRAORDINARY,
EVERY DAY is an invitation to overcome the banality and monotony of everyday life through
creativity.
4. The contest.
The EXTRAORDINARY, EVERY DAY – ALCANTARA® MOVIE CONTEST is aimed at all those
who work or study in the fields of communication, cinematography and photography, graphic design and
advertising, web design, interior design, industrial design and visual arts. There is no entry fee.
Groups of individuals may take part, and each group will collectively have the same rights as an individual
participant.
5. Entering the contest.
To enter, fill in the online application form at the following website:
www.alcantaralab.com/moviecontest and submit it.
Entries will be accepted until January 31st 2008.
6. Entry requirements and rights of participants.
Each participant may present only one project. The project must be new, original and above all unpublished.
In particular the author must ensure that the project is not subject to any kind of rights in favour of
third parties. Participants are fully responsible for the project with regard to any violations of third party
copyright, and will not hold the promoter liable for any potential costs resulting from litigation.
All work must be previously unpublished and must not have been submitted to any other contest. Projects
may not be shown publicly, in full or in part, before the jury has declared the winning videos.
Participants maintain their copyright on the project, therefore their works may be the subject of a specific
contract regarding royalties, regardless of the results of the contest.
Alcantara S.p.A. reserves the right to use selected works on any media (including internationally, for
example on websites including multimedia content) for a 12-month period starting from the date of
publication on the website.
Participants agree to the free use of the projects they present for a 12-month period starting from the
publication date on the website. Furthermore, participants agree to the insertion of the “Alcantara®” and
“The Family” logos at the beginning and at the end of their videos.
Alcantara S.p.A. agrees not to alter projects in any way without the consent of the author.
7. Delivery of projects.
Projects must be presented in a closed envelope bearing the words “Alcantara® LAB Movie Contest” and
sent to The Family, via Ariosto 6, 20121 Milano – Italia, otherwise they will not be accepted.
Projects may be sent by mail or specialist courier.
Deliveries must be sent “Delivery Duty Paid”. Only packages received by the deadline will be admitted.
Packages arriving after 29th February 2008 will be excluded from the contest. In the case of any
problem, the date of the postmark will be considered definitive.
If the package is sent from abroad, it must display a value purely for customs purposes, which should not
in any case exceed the value of the materials used. Delivery of projects is the responsibility of participants,
and the contest secretariat at Alcantara® LAB will not be held responsible for any losses. The
secretariat will preserve documents pertaining to the contest, respecting the privacy of all information
regarding participants. Work will not be returned.
The package must include only the following:
1.A closed envelope bearing the words Alcantara® LAB Movie Contest, containing the completed application
form downloaded from the website, printed and signed in accordance with the contest regulations.
2.Inside the envelope, the video on DVD.
3.The same video in compressed digital format as a .FLV file on CD.
Technical specification for the DVD format is:
DVD PAL 25fps Progressive
Technical specifications for the .FLV file format are:
480px width, On2 VP6 video codec, 800kbps video data rate, MP3 audio codec, 128kbps audio data rate
320px width, On2 VP6 video codec, 400kbps video data rate, MP3 audio codec, 128kbps audio data rate
We need both version of the video in .FLV file format
The CD must also include a photo of the participant or workgroup in .eps, .tif, .pdf, or .jpg format, at 300
dpi resolution (suitable for typographical print).
The DVD and the CD must be included in the envelope. In addition, you must include an image representing
the title of the video and the name(s) of the author/workgroup, in 13x15 cm format. The accepted
formats are .eps, .tif, .pdf and .jpg, at 300 dpi resolution (for typographical print).
All representational techniques are accepted.
The official language of the contest is English.
If the package is not complete, the secretariat reserves the right not to accept the project. Work will not be
returned.

9. Composition of the jury and evaluation criteria
The winners will be chosen by a special jury comprising the following members:

Giulio Cappellini – Designer, architect, art director
Fabrizio Giugiaro – Styling Director, GIUGIARO ITALDESIGN
Armin Linke – Photographic artist, filmmaker
Stefano Quaglia – Executive Producer, THE FAMILY
The jury reserves the right to select no winners if no project is considered worthy of an award. The
decision of the jury is final, therefore no objections may be presented, even in the case of no winner being
selected.
The jury will carry out its evaluation according to the following criteria:
• consistency with the aim of the contest
• innovative features included in the project
• the aesthetic value of the product.
10. Prizes. The jury will award three prizes based on the final ranking. The total prize amount is € 15,000, divided as follows: 1st prize: € 10,000 2nd prize: € 4,000 3rd prize: € 1,000
The contest is intended for the production of artistic works in a commercial context, therefore the above
prizes will be awarded as a recognition of personal merit in relation to the artistic value of the work
produced.
Prizes are inclusive of tax. The promoter will not be liable for any other taxes or charges for the use of
material for the institutional purposes described.
If no work is considered worthy of an award, the contest will have no result and there will be no distribution
of prizes.
1. Prize-giving and exhibition of projects.
A shortlist of deserving projects will be selected from the work submitted, and will be shown on the
website www.alcantaralab.com/moviecontest from 30th March 2008.
The jury will decide who the winners are by 10th April 2008. Winners will be announced on the website.
The prize-giving will take place during the Milan Design Week 2008.
The results of the selection will be communicated to the projects’ respective authors and published via a
press release sent to the main trade magazines.
12. Reasons for exclusion.
The main reasons for excluding a project from the contest are as follows:
• Arrival of the package later than 29th February 2008. In the case of any problem, the date of the
postmark will be considered definitive.
• Missing or incomplete application form.
• Failure to respect the official language (English) or failure to respect ethical values.
13. Incompatibility.
People involved in the organization or promotion of the competition are excluded, in particular:
1• members of the Jury and their relatives up to and including the 3rd degree;
2 • people who took part in the organization of the contest, preparation of the announcement or appointment
of members of the jury;
3 • the same participant may not be part of more than one group, nor can they participate simultaneously
as an individual and a member of a workgroup;
4 • no participant may present more than one project.
14. Aditional regulations
1. Entering the contest is free of charge, and no refund of expenses will be made, except as described in
paragraph 8 for prize-winners.
2. The intellectual property of the works will remain with the authors.
3. Participation in selection by sending a project implies automatic acceptance of the regulations and
unreserved agreement by the participant to the reproduction of the presented or produced material on any
media and in any format for all promotional purposes relating to the event; and also to its possible use to
promote the organizing company. The participant guarantees that the above uses do not damage the rights
of any third parties. The participant moreover accepts that failure to respect these rules will result in
exclusion from the contest.
4. By applying to the contest, participants exempt the organization staff from any responsibility towards
third parties who may consider themselves damaged by being exhibited or by false declarations regarding
the authorship of projects. The organization declines all responsibility for damage, accidents or any other
occurrences before, during and after the event.
5. These regulations do not constitute either an offer or a promise to the public, because the decision of
whether to accept a participant is the sole responsibility of the jury.
6. In accordance with D.P.R. 430 of 26th October 2001, paragraph 6, this contest shall not be considered a
prize contest. Consequently, this event is not subject to ministerial authorization.
7. This announcement may be alterated or revoked due to circumstances beyond our control, without
giving rise to any right to complaint or appeal by anyone concerned.
8. Participants must not establish any relationship with the members of the jury or influence their decisions
in any way. Participants may not appeal against the announcement or against any possible modification
to it, which will by promptly communicated by the contest secretariat.
9. For any matter not expressly dealt with in these regulations, reference is made to the Italian laws
currently in force.
