nommée au Prix Marcel Duchamp "C'est connu que Duchamp ne donnait pas beaucoup de crédit à l'autorité. Ses propos sur l'histoire de l'art comme résultat d'un ensemble de découvertes somme toute hasardeuses vont dans ce sens.
Duchamp était conscient du degré de vulgarité présent dans tout pouvoir autant qu'il l'était du potentiel de chaque objet de devenir une œuvre d'art.
Dans le fragment intitulé Jurés, qui inspire l'œuvre de Claire Fontaine, il commence par écrire que « les jurés sont toujours sujets à l'erreur », et il termine par la phrase: « rien, pas même la conviction d'avoir été juste, n'altère le doute où je suis quant au droit que l'on peut avoir de juger».
Le jugement, loin de se référer uniquement à l'attribution d'un prix, est une activité qui s'étend à presque tous les domaines de la vie quotidienne, le fragment de Duchamp nous rappelle que s'il est impossible de vivre sans juger il est aussi toujours abusif de vivre en le faisant.
Dans le domaine des arts le ready-made a marqué l'entrée dans l'indifférence esthétique, une sorte d'anesthésie, de suspension du jugement pour faire émerger quelque chose d'étranger aux critères qui faisaient d'un objet une œuvre d'art ; le concept élaboré par Claire Fontaine d' « artiste ready-made » marque une extension du domaine de l'indifférence du champ esthétique à l'espace éthique et fait place à des nouvelles possibilités pour les subjectivités de cultiver leur puissance plutôt que leur pouvoir." nominated at the Marcel Duchamp Prize "It is known that Duchamp did not give much credit to authority. His remarks on the history of art as the result of a series of hazardous discoveries go in this direction.
Duchamp was as much aware of the degree of vulgarity present in all forms of power as he was of the potential of each object to be turned into a work of art.
In the fragment entitled Jurors, which inspired the work of Claire Fontaine, he begins by writing that "the jurors are always subject to error", and he ends with the sentence: "Nothing, not even the conviction of having been just, alters the doubt where I find myself about the right that we may have to judge".
Judgment, far from referring only to the awarding of a prize, is an activity that expands to almost all domains of everyday life, Duchamp's words reminds us that if it is impossible to live without judging it is also always wrong to live by doing so.
In the arts the readymade marked the entry into aesthetic indifference, a kind of anesthesia, a suspension of judgment that made emerge something alien to the criteria that made an object into a work of art; the concept developed by Claire Fontaine of the "ready-made artist" marks an extension of the domain of aesthetic indifference to the ethical field and makes possible for subjectivities to cultivate their potetiality rather than their power."
