Open Video Call from Pépinières

Pépinières européennes pour jeunes artistes present
emerging « video-cinema » crossing and movement

In this, their third participation in FIPA, Pépinières continue to explore the rising trends of an artistic medium combining video art and cinema and their harmonious interaction.

Numerical technology, now common to both art forms, plays an important role in this conjunction, enabling both aesthetic renewal and new conceptual approaches.

Recent productions* that have been shown in cinemas or at video festivals, demonstrate clearly the emergence of these new forms of expression, conceived and produced within an original setting. In order to achieve public exposure, they follow complex pathways, connecting artistic centres habitually dedicated to contemporary art and film distribution centres that are normally reserved for more classical works.

These connecting pathways, forged through new alliances and the subtle dissolution of frontiers, offer a world view, whose extraordinary freedom illuminates our evolving world in a surprising way.

This original artistic movement can be defined as an attempt at crossing boundaries and expanding horizons, a powerful means of sharing emotions, triggering surprise, reflection and understanding.

Whether works of fiction, creative documents, animation, dance videos or video art, all forms of expression are invited to participate in this selection whose mission is to give a comprehensive overview of this trend, created by a young generation of artists participating in the rise of new visual expressions.

* for example Tropical Malady, Apichatpong Weerasethakul ; La Terre abandonnée, Vimukthi Jayasundara ; Moi, toi et tous les autres, Miranda Joly ; Be with me, Eric Khoo ou Zidane, un portrait du XXIème siècle, Philippe Parreno et Douglas Gordon

In this context, the Pépinières européennes pour jeunes artistes set up a tender for applications open to young artists who express themselves in the media of film and video.

The submitted films will turn around the subject of « crossing and movement » within the meaning of the present introduction.

The selected videos will be presented as part of a section of emerging creation in the Fipa in Biarritz between January 23rd and 28th 2007.

Submitted videos must be offered free of all residual rights.

The film in DVD format must be accompanied by the enclosed registration file and by the C.V. of the author.
